Dizziness and Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation

People with vestibular disorders often experience the following symptoms:

  • Vertigo
  • Dizziness
  • Visual disturbance
  • Light headedness
  • Nausea
  • Imbalance

Evidence has shown that vestibular rehabilitation through physical therapy is often effective in improving and or/resolving the above symptoms.

One common cause of dizziness is Benign Paroxsysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Patients with this condition often have dizziness with a change in position such as rolling over in bed or looking up or down. The cause of BPPV is not always clear, but it does become more common as we age. It may follow head trauma or its cause may be unknown.

After review of your medical history and a physical therapy evaluation you may be appropriate for treatment. Treatment may consist of repositioning for the BPPV or an exercise based program for home.
